Hi All

Been lurking on here for a while now after signing up and forgetting my password, finally figured it out!
I am based in Hamilton and have had my FAL for about 9 months now and so far have shot many bunnies and a couple of goats, and been on one successful deer hunt though I was not the shooter on that occasion.
Loving getting out there and collecting some wild meats!

Cheers
Guy

Chopping a 270?

$

Know a youngster who has a Howa in 270 - about 22" barrel. Shoots both tops and up close bush/matagouri work - so he's got the right caliber. Wants to suppress it to cut down both recoil and noise. He can fit a part over barrel suppressor but this will still add inches to length, and he needs to keep as short as possible.

Question for 270 users - can he cut anything off barrel and retain both good accuracy plus energy. He does not reload so its a question of powder volume/burn, twist rate/pill stabilisation etc. Even 2" off would help but am aware this is not an ideal caliber for chops.

Appreciate some experienced detail and advice on this one.

Goats

Hi all,

I looked around a new area today and came across to a few different mobs of goats. A few of them looked like they would be a good eating size. However, the area had been dropped with 1080 a few months ago so I'm unsure whether they would be alright to eat. I'm guessing the fact that they were still walking around happily (with the exception of 1 which looked seriously fucked) that they might be alright to eat as they would be dead if they had consumed it?

Cheers for any info.

Just a quick shout out to NZ-Asia Trading Ltd, the NZ Leupold dealer. I picked up a used Leupold rangefinder missing its battery cover and they popped one in the post for me off a warranty return they had. No Q asked, just turned up in the post 2 days later. Good buggers!

Three Ruger 10/22 BX1 magazines.
These are the new clear versions. More of a smoke plastic, far nicer in my opinion to the older clear magazines.
All three are new unused. $110 for the three or $40ea

Landcruiser crankcase sump to air intake hose

$

I've got a 1985 landcruiser with 3B that has a modification to the crankcase breather, which has been run from the crankcase sump to the intake between the air filter and intake manifold. What sort of hose should I be looking at? I assume it needs to be oil resistant and at least a little heat resistant too?

Talked to the guy that did it and he said people sometimes get it done to stop oil leaking onto driveways, as the normal system would just bleed the oil below the motor.

I've heard most newer engines have a similar setup with the oil and fumes that get pushed out of the oil sump just getting re-burnt in the engine, which makes them a little more environment friendly. Not sure if there are any downsides to this system that I'm missing? I'm a little worried about oil just sitting in the tube as the crankcase breather is lower than the air intake hose, but I don't really know a lot about the setup to draw any conclusions.

I asked gadgetman about this topic, and the reply was start a thread! to find what others have found that works.
A lot of the expensive local stuff is rubbish.
A lot of the cheap stuff from overseas is really good, while some of the cheap stuff is rubbish.
Opinions are like elbows every one has a couple of them.
If you have some good input, let the forum know what's great and works:)

After some substantial time away overseas a good mate and I headed out to get some goats for the pot and thin out a few numbers prior to the farmer planting Manuka this summer.

It was wet and the ground was slippery but there were plenty to be seen in the gorse filled gully. We headed up to teh top with the quad and with a little help from diff lock made it up tha muddy track. Numbers were in the hundreds with a couple of good mobs in the 30-40 mark. From our vantage point we spied two young goats sheltering under a gorse and snuck into 15m, Paul had his brand new Win 94 30-30 @<a href="http://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co.nz/members/199p/?quot;= target="_blank">199p  and I grabbed the camera.

Two good neck shots and plenty of tucker for a curry!

While Paul dressed the goats I spotted a a young nanny and it's two lambs from this year 189m away (Thanks @toch for the Zeiss Victory RF:thumbsup:) I got into a good seated position and the Sportco SMLE .303-25 spoke. Three more for the pot! Those 87gr Hornady SP sure do the damage from the old girl.

After dressing the animals out we headed to the entrance to the valley to walk in. All the noise had spooked a good mob towards out entry point and we dropped the quad. Stalking up the stream we were compromised and Paul stumbled into 3 x Billy Goats at 30m, I heard the 30-30 Bark and spotted Paul giving chase. Meeting up after plenty of swearing wading through head high gorse I spotted the two Billy's he had shot. One was a good shoulder shot dropping the big boy who stumbled off a bluff, The other was a 'Texas Heart Shot' stem to stern, no exit and winding up in the lungs. That 30-30 does pack a punch!

Both Billy Goats went 22".

As we crested a small ridge I spotted the third Billy from Pauls group feeding on a face. I set up the camera and got behind the 12" barreled .223 Tikka T3 (it's the wife's).

At 154m the 55gr Hornady over 26.3gr of Belmont Action Rifle struck low neck and sacked him, passing straight through.

https://youtu.be/YYfJMZcAyYg

After locating him and missing another in the stream at 40m (Paul wasn't used to the 30-30 and it was shooting high) we headed out to the quad.

More firearms stolen in the nelson area

Firearms and expensive hunting gear has been stolen from a home in Riwaka, near Nelson when the residents evacuated after Monday's 7.5 magnitude earthquake near Kaikoura.

The burglary has left owners feeling like they were being watched by opportunists.

A woman who lives at the address said the thousands of dollars worth of hunting gear taken.Six firearms which included some antique pieces, rifles and shotguns were stolen from the Riwaka address in the early hours of Monday morning. Other hunting gear like new tramping boots was also stolen.

The woman and other members of the household woke up to the earthquake just after midnight on Monday. They didn't feel safe in their concrete home and decided to stay with a nearby family member incase of a stronger tremor.

"While we were gone someone ripped our shed off," she said.

"The door to the shed was open and the lid of the freezer was up. Then I noticed that the two gun cabinets had their doors ripped open."They've selected the best of the hunting stuff and left the crap behind. They knew what they were doing."tems taken:

Lee Enfield 303
Remington 110 shotgun
Remington 552 .22
Winchester 370 .22
Very old side by side shotgun
Lamber shotgun
She said it was only a few months ago a neighbour on the street had all of their hunting gear targeted.
